Diane Paragas’ independent film Yellow Rose, starring Grammy®-winner and two-time Tony Award® nominee Eva Noblezada, award-winning country music artist Dale Watson, Princess Punzalan (Mula sa puso), Tony Award®-winner and Grammy®-nominee Lea Salonga (Once On This Island, Mulan, Aladdin), Gustavo Gomez (“The Walking Dead”, Libby Villari (Boyhood), and Liam Booth (Ghosts Never Sleep) has won the Houston Film Critics Society’s Best Texas Film of 2020 Award.
The retro science-fiction mystery The Vast of Night won the Texas Independent Film Visionary Award. Yellow Rose and The Vast of Night were competing against Miss Juneteenth, Boys State and Ready or Not.
The honors were given during the Society’s first-ever, hour-long telecast on KUBE-TV/channel 57 which included clips from the five nominees and interviews with some of the filmmakers.

The film is written by Paragas, Annie Howell and Celena Cipriaso based on a story by Paragas and Andy Bienen. The film is produced by Paragas, Cecilia R. Mejia, Rey Cuerdo and Orian Williams. Executive Producers are Olivia De Jesus and Karen Elizaga. Yellow Rose is now streaming on KTX.ph, iWantTFC, Cignal PPV and Sky Cable PPV in the Philippines; is available on demand, Blu-ray and DVD.
Noblezada is featured on Backstage.com’s 51 Leading Film Actors Who Deserve to Win at the 2021 SAG Awards List for her feature film debut as a talented singer and undocumented Filipina whose mother is taken away by ICE.

The 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards has been rescheduled to April 4, a week after the Grammy Awards moved to its previous date of March 14.
The SAG Awards extended this year’s eligibility period by two months, including works exhibited or broadcast between Jan. 1, 2020, and Feb. 28, 2021. Nominations for the 27th Annual SAG Awards will be announced on Feb. 4.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast on TNT and TBS at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET and will honor the outstanding film and TV performances of 2020.
In Yellow Rose, Noblezada plays Rose Garcia, a Filipina teen from a small Texas town, who fights to pursue her dreams as a country music performer while having to decide between staying with her family or leaving the only home she has ever known. Yellow Rose is available on demand, and was recently released on DVD and Blu-Ray.
The two actresses, who each played Kim in Miss Saigon in its original production and revival respectively, sing on the soundtrack, which is available to stream/download on Amazon.
Yellow Rose has also been nominated for 3 Cowboys for the fourth annual edition of the C&I Movie Awards including Best Actress for Eva Noblezada, Best Supporting Actor for Dale Watson, Best Support Actress for Princess Punzalan. Award-winning feature film Yellow Rose, directed by Diane Paragas, captivated audiences during a successful North American film festival run this month. The last screening of year is at the Hawaii International Film Festival in Kauai at the Waimea Theater tonight at 7pm. Producers Karen Elizaga and Rey Cuerdo will be in attendance for the screening.
